Promontory Point | Ballet Session
Grace and Power
She’s got both in spades.
This lady is amazing. I’ve had the amazing privilege of dancing ballet with her at UBallet, seeing her perform, and now, photographing her. She is one of the sweetest people, but also packs a punch. When she’s on pointe shoes, she gets it done. So naturally, when she asked me for a ballet photography session, I was stoked. We began at a quiet brick building near Promontory Point. We laughed, talked about life, and she discussed how she was learning how to rest; taking time to actually enjoy life, take care of herself, and not become over-worked. She’s a student at the University of Chicago, so this is no easy feat. And she’s happier for it. This came through in conversation, but also in her dance, and I couldn’t have been more excited to take photos during this time of her life.
Next we were off to Promontory Point, a beautiful peninsula jutting into Lake Michigan. It was perhaps 35 degrees. Have I mentioned how crazy hardcore this girl is??? The sky was absolutely incredible, but I couldn’t believe how she pushed through the cold in her leotard and tights. We took a few breaks to warm up, but gosh, she was a trooper. Needless to say, I think it was worth it!!!
Like I said, this lady is amazing. I had an absolute blast taking photos with her. She is beautiful inside and out! Couldn’t have asked for a better way to end the season!
