Engagement Fun | Downtown Chicago
Engaged in Downtown Chicago | Civic Opera House | Fulton | North Avenue Beach
It was love at first sight for these two. She was different from anyone he’d ever met, and after first meeting him, she exclaimed, “Oh please, Lord, let him be the one!” They met at Waffle House for their first date and stayed there for 4 hours. When they said goodbye, she told him “I hope to see you again.” And now they’re spending the rest of their lives with each other — the rest is history!
One thing I loved in our time together was not only hearing about their engagement and how they grew to love each other, but the way that they talked about each other and value quality relationships. Often they’d laugh about how they “hardly have any friends” because they just hang out with each other and the people that are closest to them. The more and more I learn in life the more I’ve learned that quality, not quantity, is the secret to relationships, and it was clear how much quality they not only appreciated about each other, but also cultivated in each other’s lives.
They both live in Texas, have been together for nearly 3 years, and for engagement photos wanted to take them some place fun; some place different. She’d been to Chicago when she was 18 and loved the city, and both decided to do their session here (and I’m so glad they did!!). We met up in the heart of downtown Chicago and started at a bridge near the Civic Opera House.
One fantastic detail as we left the Civic Opera House was that they noticed the sign in the background. It said, “TURANDOT: SOMETIMES ONLINE DATING ISN’T SO BAD…” They met online originally, and so this seemed like it was just for them. How perfect!
Next, it was on to the Fulton market neighborhood. This fun little area is just west of downtown Chicago in the west loop and is filled with unique restaurants, bars, boutiques, and among my favorite, murals. One in particular is off of N Peoria Street and W Randolph Street and we had a blast there, exploring little areas along the way.
Another wonderful part of our time together was celebrating the “coming soon” member of their family! I was so stoked to be able to take some maternity photos along with engagement photos! She is just the cutest — a beautiful mama. In asking them about getting ready to have a baby and their preparations, they talked about how it was just the right timing. They were both ready to be parents and excited about it.
We finished off our amazing day by heading over to North Avenue Beach. Did I also mention that it was 30 degrees outdoors?? These two were TROOPERS. We’d warm up in the car for a few brief moments in between pictures and then run out to take a few more. Despite the freezing cold, we had a blast!
I can’t believe the amazing day we had getting these pictures. I really can’t believe the amazing people I get to work with, and these two were no exception. I am so happy for their lives together and for their coming little one!
